Boston Strong at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital

Healthcare professionals at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston share insights on their efforts to help patients injured in bombings heal.

Twin bombs exploded at the finish of the 117th Boston Marathon, held April 15, 2013, leaving three people dead and countless others with severe, life-altering injuries. First responders rushed the victims, with injuries ranging from severe burns and compromised limbs to hearing loss and brain injuries, to various hospitals and trauma centers across the Boston metro area.

After enduring extended acute care stays, which in some cases included amputations, skin grafts and limb preservation surgeries, many patients were discharged to the next level of care at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston. ADVANCE visited patients, healthcare professionals and staff there for an inside look at the healing environment for physical and emotional wounds experienced by all those affected.
