A Successful Transition to ICD-10

Key actions providers can take for a successful ICD-10 transition.

A last-minute delay to the October 1 mandatory transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10 grows ever less likely as the deadline approaches. While 63 percent of healthcare organizations appear to be ready for the final stages of their ICD-10 preparation, according to an American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) survey, nearly one in 10 report they cannot move forward with plans, citing lack of knowledge as a major reason. With limited time left, training must be highly focused and coders should be offered schedule flexibility and educational resources to prepare.
