MT Sees No Raise in Last 10 Years

View Comments (1)Print ArticleEmail Article

I couldn't agree more with Ms. Murphy's Letter to the Editor ("MT Pay Structure Needs an Overhaul" ADVANCE, October 2009). I, too, have more than 20 years' experience and haven't gotten a raise in the last 10 years. As a matter of fact, with the introduction of speech editing, my pay has gone down. I have always been told at annual reviews I am one of the top producers and have always gotten excellent feedback, but never, ever a raise. And, to add insult to injury, someone just starting out as an MT can come on board and make exactly the same per line as me! So much for experience, which they all want you to have. Ms. Murphy, your letter is right on!

I too agree with Ms. Murphy's Letter to the Editor ("MT Pay Structure Needs an Overhaul" ADVANCE, October 2009) as well as the above poster. I have 25 years of MT/QA experience, CMT for 14 years, etc., and my last increase was 12 years ago. So far I've managed to not get pushed to the VR and the mandatory pay cut (which is another letter about how wrong this is), but I am sure I won't be able to hold on very long. The MTSOs seem to find every excuse and reason to cut our pay - some real, and, I believe, some not so real. Though many people in other industries are getting pay cuts and lay offs in the last few years related to the economy, what other industry can lay claim to such an appalling fact of not receiving a raise for more than a decade, not even cost of living increases? I suspect there are none other than MT. It is quite disheartening.
