The American Health Information Management Association's 81st Convention and Exhibit comes to Grapevine, TX, Oct. 3-8.

More than 4,000 HIM and HIT professionals will come together at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center for 5 days of learning and networking. This year's educational program explores the changing role of health information management, legislative issues and new technology.

Advancing Your Career
Throughout the week, executives, directors and aspiring managers can learn the key ingredients for advancing their career goals.

On Monday, Oct. 5, a human resources expert discusses tips for engaging a multigenerational workplace as well as the value of diversity training in organizations. HIT professionals also can learn effective project management strategies, including how to outline objectives based on a five-phase project management cycle. The session, "Project Management Essentials for the HIM Professional," takes place Wednesday, Oct. 7.

Of interest to decision makers is "How Do I Make ROI Work for Me?" on Saturday, Oct. 3. Attendees will learn to build a business plan for Release of Information and translate technology initiatives into returns on investment.

Several presentations on Tuesday (Oct. 6) discuss revenue management strategies. At 1 p.m., attendees will learn how placing coders in registration areas can positively affect the revenue cycle. At 3 p.m., HIT professionals will learn tips for avoiding the pitfalls of incomplete charts, which delay the billing process and can create cash flow problems.

Keynote Speakers
AHIMA features a slew of nationally recognized speakers. David Blumenthal, MD, MPP, the Department of Health and Human Services National Coordinator for HIT, will update attendees on the Obama administration's implementation of a nationwide HIT infrastructure during his Tuesday, Oct. 6 address.
